Makeda Akoma is a culturally rooted birthworker, ritualist, and healing guide with a deep commitment to nurturing and supporting individuals through sacred transitions. As the founder of House of Akoma, she offers transformative teachings for birthworkers, healers, and soul workers, emphasizing the wisdom of ancestral practices and holistic approaches to care.

Additionally, Makeda is a Certified Lactation Support Consultant and a Master Herbalist with over 30 years of experience, bringing a wealth of knowledge to her practice.
In addition to her work in birth, Makeda is an initiated High Priestess of Ifa, honoring sacred African spiritual traditions. She is also the author of , "The Long Run: Preparing for the Marathon of Birth", a guide designed to help expectant parents prepare for the transformative experience of childbirth. As a ritualist and ceremony guide, she creates sacred spaces for individuals to connect with their ancestral roots and embrace the healing power of ceremony and ritual.
Makeda is a proud member of the Birth and Family Education Team for the Swedish - Providence Healthcare System in Seattle, WA, where she contributes her expertise to support families during pregnancy and beyond. She is also an ordained minister and a Notary Public, offering additional services to her community.
Makeda’s vision is to create a supportive community where birthworkers can explore culturally rooted teachings that honor the wisdom of the past while providing effective care in the present. Her workshops, including Culturally Attuned Care and Folk Medicine for Doulas, empower others to integrate healing practices into their work, nurturing the soul as well as the body.
She is the founder of MaMaKeda Natural Essentials, an all-natural health wellness product line focusing on women's health and pregnancy support. Her family also owns and operates an apothecary in the Columbia City neighborhood of Seattle, WA, where they continue their commitment to holistic health practices and natural remedies.
A mother of seven, Makeda is deeply passionate about fostering environments where individuals and communities can thrive, rooted in the practices and wisdom that have been passed down through generations.
