I AM Makeda Akoma, and I'm honored to be a doula specializing in holistic support throughout the entire journey of pregnancy and childbirth. Since 2010, I've been passionately providing comprehensive care encompassing prenatal, labor, delivery, and postpartum stages.
My approach is deeply rooted in ancestral wisdom, seamlessly interwoven with evidence-based practices. By drawing from timeless traditions and coupling them with contemporary skills training, I strive to offer a truly holistic and empowering experience for expecting mothers and their families.
One of my key focuses is childbirth education, providing families with the knowledge and confidence they need to make informed decisions throughout their birthing journey. Together, we can create personalized birth plans that honor your wishes and help you navigate the birthing process with clarity and intention. I also offer Closing of the Bones ceremonies—a sacred postpartum ritual that nurtures the physical and emotional well-being of new mothers as they transition into motherhood, promoting healing and closure after birth.
Throughout my years of practice, I've supported a diverse range of birthing experiences, including hospital births, home births, and births in birth centers. I've also had the privilege to provide guidance and assistance in both assisted and unassisted births, ensuring that every mother receives the support she needs, regardless of her chosen birthing path. I am also here to support cesarean births, planned or unplanned.
